Wilkes County’s First Grand Hunting Retriever Champion

A Labrador Retriever named “Dooley”, who’s official name now is GRHRCH UH Appalachian’s Blue Ridge Bootlegger, owned by Matthew Minton of North Wilkesboro passed the 2012 HRC International Fall Grand, in Catoosa, Oklahoma, on October 17, 2012, becoming Wilkes County’s & North Western North Carolina’s First Grand Hunting Retriever Champion titled dog. The HRC International Grand is held twice a year in various locations throughout the United States and Canada. To even qualify to compete at the Grand the dog must first obtain a Hunting Retriever Champion title. It takes two Grand passes to become a Grand Hunting Retriever Champion. Dooley obtained his first Grand pass at the 2011 HRC International Spring Grand, in Grenada, Mississippi. The Grand is considered to be the pinnacle of all retriever hunt tests by professional dog trainers. It consists of five separate series and the dog must pass the first series in order to be called back to compete in the second series and so forth through the entire five series to obtain a single Grand pass.
